Our high school students have the unique opportunity to be one of the very first groups to serve the city of Detroit through Praying Pelican Missions. The leader of that ministry site, Celia Schwartz, grew up in the city and church that we will be staying at (Northline Church in Taylor, MI) and is over-the-moon excited about launching this opportunity. The church was recently built and done so with the focus of hosting mission groups that would come to serve the city, which is now a reality. Over the course of the week, our students be engaged in serving the elderly in the church, helping at a day shelter, cleaning up parks or sidewalks in the community, helping at a food bank, canvassing and doing evangelism in the community, participating in an after-school kids program, and possibly doing a special event like a basketball tournament. It is certain to be an absolutely full week and one that will stretch everyone involved, but impact them in ways they never thought. The week will close out with a fun activity that the team will get to do together.
Due to the nature of and distance of this trip, the cost will be $750, which will include everything for the trip. Part of the training and preparation for this trip will include the students composing and sending out support letters to friends and family to help raise the necessary funds. The plan is to work together to raise the entire team’s support.
